Rutgers men’s basketball continues to gain momentum with the 2025 recruiting class. 5-star combo guard Trey McKenney is set to take an official visit to the program on the weekend of October 13. In addition his AAU teammate, 5-star point guard Darius Acuff, is also in the process of setting up a visit to RU.

This comes on the same week that 3-star forward Dylan Grant committed to Rutgers in the 2024 class. All three recruits play for The Family, a Michigan based AAU program that plays on the Nike EYBL circuit. It’s the same program that current Rutgers assistant Marlon “Smoke” Williamson previously coached at and ran as director.

The coaching staff has also long pursued 5-star guard Darius Adams as well as having offered 5-star shooting guard Meleek Thomas. Now another highly sought after prospect has emerged on the radar of Rutgers.

Top 100 recruit and 4-star wing Jaylen Harrell is reportedly set to visit the program on September 15 per 24/7 High School Hoops.

Harrell is the No. 89 overall prospect in the 2025 class per 247 Sports composite rankings. The Braintree, Massachusetts native is the top ranked recruit in the state and no. 18 wing in the country. He plays for Expressions Elite on the Nike EYBL circuit. Harrell is teammates with fellow Rutgers target Nigel James, who visited the program in June.

During the Peach Jam in the E16 division, Harrell led Expressions Elite with 20.0 points per game through four contests. He also averaged 5.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists in a team high 30.8 minutes per game. Harrell shot 53.3% from two-point range (16-30), 27.3% from three-point range (9-33), and 91.3% from the foul line (21-23).

The 6’5″ Harrell can shoot, is a physically strong player as well as a willingly defender and rebounder. He has a soft shooting touch, uses his body well and finishes with contact while being able to create his own shot off the dribble. He fits the Steve Pikiell mold who is a two-way player with a high motor and can defend multiple positions.

Harrell currently holds offers from Alabama, Georgetown, UMass, Wake Forest, Washington and Providence, who he is visiting the week before Rutgers. While Pikiell and the staff haven’t reportedly offered Harrell yet, it’s safe to imagine their interest level is very high in wanting him to take an unofficial visit in September.

Rutgers continues to pursue elite targets in the class of 2025. With the No. 2 class in the 2024 cycle so far, the program is becoming a legitimate force nationally on the recruiting trail. Stay tuned…
