Rutgers men’s basketball suffered a hit on its highly ranked 2024 recruiting class on Tuesday as 4-star point guard Dellquan Warren announced that he was decommitting.
4-star point guard Dellquan Warren is 6’1″ and a Erie, Pennsylvania native. He ranks No. 61 nationally in the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2024 class. Warren is also ranked the No. 7 point guard in the class and No. 4 in Pennsylvania by 247 Sports. He is an athletic playmaker on both ends of the floor who has the potential to become an elite on ball defender. He’s extremely tough and shooting 58% from two-point range in the EYBL this season.
Warren told Tipton, “After a lot of long hard conversations with my close and loved ones, I have decided to re-open my recruitment with keeping Rutgers at the top of my list.”
With NIL concerns following the unexpected departure of Cam Spencer last week, Warren told Bobby Deren of 247 Sports that his decision wasn’t based on that.
“I just want people to know it’s not about the NIL portion, I just felt like it was just too early in the process and I only took one official visit to Rutgers so I want to explore all my options before making one of the biggest decisions of my life.”
For context, Warren soon after committing in January declared he was planning on taking official visits to other programs. He quickly retracted that comment, but that would back up Warren’s statement now that he wanted more time on his decision.
The 2024 recruiting class includes No.4 ranked Ace Bailey and No. 93 ranked Lathan Sommerville. No. 2 prospect Dylan Harper remains Rutgers’ top priority in this recruiting cycle. For now, the 2024 class for RU is ranked No. 7 nationally per 247 Sports.
