Rutgers volleyball made history on Saturday night defeating No. 16 Minnesota in four sets 25-20, 25-22, 14-25, 25-14. It was the program’s first ever ranked win. After years of struggling since joining the Big Ten in 2014, it was an unquestioned high moment for head coach Caitlin Schweihofer’s team.

As the the program continues to take steps up the big ladder, Saturday’s victory will hopefully serve as a valuable jumping off point.

Redshirt sophomore Alissa Kinkela had a team high 17 kills and completed a double-double with 13 digs. Last season, Kinkela led Rutgers with 301 kills, which was the ninth most in a rally-era season for the program.

This season, Kinkela is on pace to top that mark and leads the Scarlet Knights with 191 kills including 3.2 per set. She is also third on the team with 96 digs.

Rutgers will next face No. 1 Wisconsin in Madison on Friday, October 13. The Big Ten gauntlet is unforgiving but the Scarlet Knights will head to Madison with optimism.

Kinkela joins this episode to capture the historic moment for the program in defeating No. 16 Minnesota last Saturday, the progress that Rutgers has made, the style of head coach Caitlin Schweihofer, the importance of mental health, the key to more success this season and more.
