Rutgers football enters November playing with house money. Adding to its win total after already clinching a bowl berth would be another step forward for the program. However, the schedule is ramping up and RU could be underdogs in the last four regular season games.
If the Scarlet Knights are going to make more progress this fall, this team needs to continue to improve in multiple areas. When asked about the last four games of the regular season this week, Schiano was quick to make clear where his focus is.
“I’m not really concerned about the last four. I’m worried about one, and that’s the Ohio State game and what I said.” Schiano stated. “What I want to see is a consistent great week of practice and then go out and play our best game of the year.”
For Rutgers to play well enough to beat at least one opponent of a group that includes Ohio State, Iowa, Penn State and Maryland, I think there are five keys to do that.
Explosive plays on offense
Red Zone execution
Aggressive play calling in spots
Forcing turnovers
Staying health and depth
On the latest episode of The Scarlet Faithful podcast, I go into detail in all five areas. To make progress down the stretch, a lot will have to do with how much this team can be consistent in these areas, which will elevate their level of play and result in executing in crucial moments.
