The 2023 Rutgers football season kicks off in just over two weeks now. Optimism and concerns are both present.
A lot of things need to happen for Rutgers football to have a successful 2023 season. Obviously quarterback play will be a major factor. But there are plenty of other areas that this team need to develop in.
The issue with the schedule is that the most winnable games are all front loaded. Rutgers needs to hit the ground running in September to have a chance to win six games. The three game home stand to open the season is crucial. Beating Northwestern, Temple and Virginia Tech gives this team a real chance to start the season strong.
On Friday’s episode, I go into detail on different scenarios for the season ahead. And most importantly, what needs to happen to keep hope alive for the entire season. There have been multiple years where the program suffers a damaging loss in the first month of the season and never fully recovers.
If Rutgers can develop in multiple areas and stay healthy, this team has a fighting chance to a bowl game. But if they slip up in September, the potential optimism in October will not exist.
This episode covers all of this including how to keep hope alive and how fun it would be as fans if they can for as long as possible. Also a quick update on other sports and more, including a schedule preview for the next week of podcasts planned.

My apologies, I read the articles with the sound off and don’t listen to the podcasts. I completely agree with what you’ve written. Each of the first three games is a must win. It kind of makes the boring coach speak regarding the need to go 1-0 each week meaningful except in this case the first three need to be cumulative for a bowl possibility. A lose against any of the first three would be difficult, if not impossible, to recover from.
I’m having Scarlet cool aide for breakfast. I’m going to revise my predication to include a Homecoming win. It’s a momentum sport. Injury free we can win seven and either finish 7-6 or 8-5 depending on the bowl opponent. Yeah, I better have a second cup of that cool aide.

Wouldn’t it be great is Wimsatt took a giant step forward this year and led Rutgers to a wining record and a bowl game? It would have been great if I won the $1.5 billion Megamillions jackpot too. 🙂
