Rutgers football (6-2: 3-2)hosts No. 1 Ohio State (8-0; 5-0) on Saturday at noon ET airing live on CBS. It’s a daunting matchup in many ways, but also the first time RU has even a little bit of hope. The Buckeyes are close to three touchdown favorites and have a dominant defense. However, the offense is less explosive than in previous years. On the flip side, the Scarlet Knights have played so well this season there is hope they can be very competitive in this series for the first time in ten meetings.
Ohio State is dealing with injuries to key plays on both offense and defense. At least four starters, including quarterback Kyle McCord, dealt with issues during the Wisconsin game last week. Backup QB Devin Brown was not available against Wisconsin but is expected back against Rutgers. OSU is expecting starting receiver Emeka Egbuka back this week. Running back TreVeyon Henderson returned last week but backup Myan Williams is now out for the season. Starting safety Lathan Ransom may miss Saturday’s game as well.
Will Rutgers be able to stretch the field and be aggressive with its play calling? Can the defense force turnovers and get stops on third downs? Will special teams be a factor? Can Rutgers hang in there and put more pressure on the Buckeyes late in the game?
These topics and more are covered as David Anderson returns as a guest to The Scarlet Faithful podcast.
