Rutgers football hosts Temple on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at SHI Stadium with the game airing on the Big Ten Network. Last season, RU survived a scare from the Owls and won on the road 16-14. While winning anyway possible is all that matters, the hope is that the Scarlet Knights have more control in this meeting.
Playing clean football is always important. However, it’s not just about limiting penalties and turnovers. Not having missed tackles and dropped balls in the receiving game is crucial as well. Rutgers needs to seize opportunities that present themselves in this game.
The more Rutgers can assert themselves both physically and mentally in this game might just be the most important key to the game. Temple was methodical in their attacking offensively and I didn’t think RU played with enough energy. At home in front of a blackout crowd, Rutgers has a chance to ride that wave and build off of it with momentum from the opening kickoff on.
The visitors are going to throw the ball a lot and the pass defense of Rutgers needs to neutralize their attack. Of course, Gavin Wimsatt making good decisions at quarterback, establishing the run and have special teams on the plus side are keys as well.
Temple is obviously a winnable game, but is also an opponent capable of upsetting Rutgers if they don’t come to play. The Scarlet Knights need to bring an edge in from of the home faithful to impose their will on the Owls.
