No. 12 Rutgers field hockey earned its second ranked win of the season on Sunday with a 2-1 double overtime win against No. 15 Princeton. The Scarlet Knights are now 6-0, the program’s best start since 2008. All six wins have come on the road. It’s also the best start ever for head coach Meredith Civico, who has turned Rutgers into a national power in the last few years.
It was scoreless into the third quarter when Bridy Molyneaux scored with Guillermina Causarano and Noelle Leaf assisting on the goal.
The Rutgers defense was stifling the Princeton attack before the Tigers scored on its first shot of the game. Liz Agatucci scored off an assist from Ottilie Sykes in the 44th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
Despite having a 9-1 shot advantage at the end of four quarters, the game went into extra time knotted up.
After a scoreless first overtime, Rutgers won the game when Puck Winter scored off a penalty corner to deliver the victory. She shot a rocket into the back of the net as Winter now leads the team with six goals on the season.

It marked the 40th ranked win of Civico’s tenure and 20th over the past three seasons. Rutgers has now beaten Princeton four of its last five meetings. Before this recent stretch, the Scarlet Knight had beaten the Tigers just three times in 22 meetings.
The tremendous start to the 2023 season continues for the Scarlet Knights. On Friday, they defeated Villanova 6-2. Puck Winter had a hat trick, Marique Dieudonne scored twice and Julianne Kopec scored her first career goal at Rutgers. This came a week after its first ranked win with another double overtime win at then No. 15 UConn.
Rutgers will play its seventh straight road game to start the season as they open Big Ten play at No. 11 Penn State on Friday, September 15 at 5 p.m. RU will then host LaSalle for its home opener on Sunday, September 17 at 1 p.m.
