Rutgers landed running back Edd Guerrier on Sunday as the Florida prospect accepted an offer from head coach Greg Schiano on the spot during a phone call. He later announced his commitment on Sunday night.

Guerrier led Port Charlotte high school to a district title with 1,450 rushing yards, 20 touchdowns and averaged 7.7 yards per carry. In ten games played, Guerrier rushed for 100+ yards eight times. He added five receptions for 113 yards and a score. Guerrier is a strong, physical runner who is 5’7″ and 192 pounds.
His junior season was highlighted by a monster performance in the district championship in which he ran for 269 yards and three touchdowns, all of which were 40+ yards. It was an emotional win for his school following Hurricane Ian that hit Port Charlotte hard. The Pirates were unable to play home games the rest of the fall.
Despite a strong junior season, Guerrier is not currently ranked by any recruiting services. However, you have to love the mental toughness of the Florida native. His hard running style was coupled with the ability to overcome plenty of adversity his junior season following the hurricane that impacted his community. Being underrecruited is likely to be a motivating factor for Guerrier at the next level.
Guerrier also runs with vision and patience, allowing for blockers to set up and take advantage of the space created. He hits holes hard and is speedy for his size.
Louisville offered Guerrier in May and he also held an offer from Bowling Green. However, once Rutgers offered, Guerrier made up his mind to commit. He has never visited campus but has family that live in New Jersey.
Guerrier is the second running back in the 2024 class for Rutgers, joining high 3-star Gabe Winowich. He is also the seventh commit from Florida. The other future Scarlet Knights from the Sunshine state include athlete Kevin Levy, linebacker Sam Robinson, safety Dahkari Gilley, offensive tackle Raynor Andrews and brothers along the defensive line in Tycoolhill and Tyclean Luman.
Following the commitment of Guerrier, the Rutgers class of 2024 is currently ranked No. 34 nationally and No. 10 in the Big Ten. With 23 commitments, the average player grade for the class is 86.79, which is No. 12 in the Big Ten out of 16 schools including USC and UCLA. From a historical perspective, this class is tracking as the third highest of the last 15 years for Rutgers.

This recruit could be a sleeper. Looking at the video, it appears he hits the hole & reaches full speed quickly with very good lower body strength. Perhaps his lack of height affected his recruitment. Supposedly, he runs a sub-4.5-second 40-yard dash which, if true, is another example of the overall speed in this ’24 class.
