Two former Rutgers assistant coaches will visit SHI Stadium as part of Temple’s coaching staff on Saturday night.

Adam Scheier is the special teams coordinator and tight ends coach for the Owls. Before heading to Phiadelphia, Scheier was at Rutgers as part of Greg Schiano’s initial staff of his second tenure. He was the special teams coordinator for both the 2020 and 2021 seasons. The veteran coach helped Rutgers rank in the top 10 nationally both seasons in special teams efficiency ratings. They finished 17th last season.

Scheier coached special teams standouts that included punter Adam Korsak, long snapper Billy Taylor and kick returner Aron Cruickshank. All three earned First Team All-Big Ten honors during Scheier’s stint at Rutgers. It was the 2021 season in which the punt team led the nation with an NCAA single-season record 45.82 net punting average.

In addition, former Rutgers wide receivers coach Jafar Williams returns to Piscataway. He worked at RU at the beginning of former head coach Chris Ash’s tenure during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Former Rutgers wide receiver Jawuan Harris led all Big Ten freshman with 39 catches and 416 receiving yards in Williams’ first season.

A former star receiver at Maryland, Williams has also coached at Purdue, Maryland and Virginia Tech before joining the Temple staff before the 2022 season. He is wide receivers coach and pass game coordinator, now in his second year under head coach Stan Drayton. A major key for Rutgers is slowing down the Owls attack through the air on Saturday.

Earlier this week, Schiano said that Temple “should have beat us last year“. Hopefully, Rutgers can build off a solid week one performance in the win over Northwestern.

Saturday’s game is a Blackout and kicks off at 7:30 p.m. airing live on the Big Ten Network.
