Rutgers volleyball won a pair of matches this past weekend to improve to 7-1 on the season. It’s the program’s best start since 2012 when RU began 14-1.

On Friday, the Scarlet Knights defeated Morgan State (3-8) in straight sets 25-23, 25-11, 25-12. Alissa Kinkella led Rutgers with a match high 10 kills. Bekah Williams had 8 kills along with 4 aces. Anna Hartman added 8 kills.

On Saturday, Rutgers beat Columbia (2-5) in four sets 23-25, 27-25, 25-14, 25-23. Both matches took place at Levien Gymnasium at Columbia.

Alissa Kinkela produced the fifth best hitting percentage in a match in program history on Saturday. The Aussie hit at a .630 clip and led Rutgers with 18 kills on 27 attempts with just one error. Two other Scarlet Knights had double digit kills as Kristina Grkovic and Bekah Williams each had 11 in the match.

Chelsea Harvey led Rutgers with 36 assists against Columbia. Rikki Williams had a balanced performance with 9 kills and 6 blocks in the win.

It’s the best start for Rutgers under head coach Caitlin Schweihofer, who won the 100th match of her career against Rider on September 6.

After going 7-1 on the road to start the season, Rutgers has its home opener at the Barn against Marist on Wednesday, September 13. They’ll then host Princeton at the Barn on Friday, September 15. Admission is free and the matches start at 7:00 p.m.
