Caitlin Schweihofer earns 100th career win as Rutgers Volleyball improves to 5-1

Rutgers volleyball defeated Rider in four sets on Wednesday night to improve to 5-1 on the season. It was the 100th career victory for Rutgers head coach Caitlin Schweihofer. The Scarlet Knights won the match 25-12, 27-25, 25-21, 25-15.

Kristina Grkovic paced Rutgers with 13 kills and 6 blocks in the victory.

Rikki Williams had 12 kills and 5 blocks, Alissa Kinkela had 11 kills and Lexi Visintine had 10 kills. Both Williams and Visintine registered career highs in kills.

Madyson Chitty led RU with 18 digs while Taylor Humphrey had 14 digs.

Alyssa Nayar posted her third double-double of the season with a team high 49 assists and 11 digs.

Rutgers has now bounced back from its first loss of the season with straight wins. The Scarlet Knights lost a five set match to N.C. State last Friday 25-23, 21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 12-15. On Saturday, they rebounded with a three set sweep of Howard 25-23, 27-25, 25-17.

The Scarlet Knights have two matches this weekend in New York City at the Columbia Tournament. They’ll face Morgan State on Friday, September 8 at 3:30 p.m. Rutgers will then take on Columbia on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. 

Schweihofer has won 27 of her 100 career victories at Rutgers. Now in her fourth season, the program is off to a strong start with hopes of moving up the Big Ten standings this fall.

After this weekend, Rutgers will make its home debut at the Barn on College Avenue in concluding the non-conference schedule against Marist on Wednesday, September 13 and Princeton on Friday, September 15. The Scarlet Knights will open Big Ten play on Wednesday, September 20 at Happy Valley against No. 12 Penn State.
