Rutgers women’s soccer earned an NCAA Tournament bid for the 12th straight season on Monday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights will play at No. 8 seed Columbia in the first round. The game will be played on Sunday, November 12 at noon in New York City.
With an RPI ranking of No. 37, RU kept its impressive streak alive with an at-large berth.
It’s the 18th NCAA Tournament berth for the program and the 14th in the last 16 years. Rutgers has advanced to two Final Fours in the timespan including 2015 and 2021.
This season, the Scarlet Knights enter the NCAAs with 9-6-4 overall record. RU finished in a tie for sixth place in the Big Ten with a 5-4-1 conference record. Rutgers has gone 4-1-1 in its last six games and 5-2-2 over its last nine contests.
The Scarlet Knights tied three RPI Top 25 teams in No. 17 Princeton, No. 21 Wisconsin and No. 23 Nebraska. They also have three shutout victories against top 50 foes including No. 34 Ohio State, No. 42 Providence and No. 50 Michigan.
Rutgers has 10 starters and 18 players on the roster with NCAA Tournament experience.
Columbia is 10-4-3 this season and upset No. 14 Brown in the Ivy League Tournament. They ultimately lost the championship game to Harvard. The Lions defeated Hofstra and Princeton, two teams that RU lost to and tied respectively.
The winner of this first round match up will face the winner of No. 1 seed Clemson and Radford.
