Rutgers baseball has earned the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 seed Nebraska in the Big Ten Tournament At Charles Schwab Field in Omaha. Although the conference postseason tourney begins on Tuesday, RU will face the Huskers on Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET. The game will air live on the Big Ten Network.
The Scarlet Knights finished the regular season with a 14-6 win over Minnesota on Saturday. They salvaged the series after dropping the first two games. Rutgers needed a sweep to avoid playing in the 4/5 game and finish in the top 3 of the league standings. It didn’t happen, but RU still enters the postseason playing well of late.
Steve Owens’ club completed the regular season with a 33-21 overall record and were 14-10 in Big Ten play. After starting just 15-15 overall and 2-4 in league action, Rutgers has won 18 of its 24 games including going 12-6 in the Big Ten.
Nebraska and Rutgers did not meet in the regular season. The Scarlet Knights have won six of its last eight against the Huskers under Steve Owens over the past two years. This includes a three game sweep last season on the road.
Rutgers advanced to the 2022 Big Ten Championship game after wins over Indiana, Penn State and Purdue last May. RU lost to Michigan in the title game, which is winner take all despite it being a double elimination tournament. Failing to earn an automatic bid ultimately burned the Scarlet Knights, who were left out of the NCAA Tournament with a 44-15 record.
If RU wants to make the NCAA Tournament this season and end a 16 year drought, they must win the Big Ten Tournament. For the complete schedule and bracket, click here. Check back with The Scarlet Faithful for complete coverage of Rutgers at the Big Ten Tournament.
