After last fall’s successful campaign, the 2023 Rutgers men’s soccer season is just over six weeks from kicking off. The program recently released its schedule which features 15 regular season games. The Scarlet Knights will host eight opponents at Yurcak Field.

Notable matchups for Rutgers in the non-conference slate include home games against St. John’s and Princeton as well as a road contest at UCLA.

In Big Ten action, Rutgers will host Michigan State, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Penn State. The Scarlet Knights will travel to play Michigan, Maryland, Northwestern and Indiana.

The Big Ten Tournament takes place from November 1-12.

Head coach Jim McElderry enters his fifth season at Rutgers after a memorable 2022 campaign. RU went 10-5-6 and won the program’s first ever Big Ten Tournament Championship. The 3-1 triumph over eventual national runner-up Indiana came in front of over 4,000 fans at Yurcak Field. The Scarlet Knights earned its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2015 before losing to Penn in the first round.

The Scarlet Knights return many key contributors from last season including All Big Ten performer Jason Bouregy, Jackson Temple, Joey Zalinsky, Ola Maeland, Chris Tiao, Nico Rosamilia, Colin Beasley, Cole Sotack and Matthew Acosta as well as Big Ten All-Freshman selections Cole Cruthers, Ian Abbey and Ciaran Dalton. In addition, the program welcomed a four member freshman class as well as three transfers. More to come on the roster outlook soon.

To prepare for the 2023 season, Rutgers will host three local foes for preseason scrimmages. Opponents include Drexel (Sunday, Aug. 12), Rider (Tuesday, Aug. 15) and Villanova (Saturday, Aug. 19).

Rutgers will open the 2023 season on the road at Delaware on Thursday, August 24.
