On Friday, Rutgers baseball announced the signing of transfer pitcher Jordan Falco. The 6’6″ right hander pitched the last two seasons at Division II school Adelphi. The Center Moriches, New York native adds much needed depth to the Scarlet Knight pitching staff for the next two seasons.

In 2023, Falco was the No. 2 starter for Adelphi where he went 3-3 with a 4.91 ERA, a team best in the rotation. He struck out 48 batters and walked 23 over 51.1 innings.

As a freshman the previous season, Falco split time as a starter and reliever. He finished 2-1 with a 3.50 ERA starting five of his 12 total appearances. He was a dominant reliever with a 0.63 ERA over 7 appearances. Falco allowed just 32 hits over 36 innings and struck out 29 batters which walking 24. Opponents hit just .242 against him in 2022.

Falco said that he chose Rutgers for “A winning culture and better competition.”

Prior to Adelphi, Falco was a four year varsity player and two-time captain for Center Moriches high school. He helped lead the school to consecutive NYSPHSAA Class B State Championships and was named a Perfect Game Preseason All-American in 2021.

His brother David has been a pitcher with Maryland the past four years. He announced he was transferring to Wake Forest for his final year of eligibility.

Rutgers has now signed four pitchers from the transfer portal this offseason. Falco joins Hamilton College starter Jack Eshleman, Old Dominion reliever Joey DeChiaro and St. John’s starter Sonny Fauci.

Seven pitchers for Rutgers from last season previously entered the transfer portal. The most notable are relievers Sam Bello, Garrett French, and Grant Besser, who combined to throw over 97 innings.

While the Scarlet Knights also need to replace No. 2 starter Drew Conover after he was drafted and signed with the Oakland Athletics, staff Ace Christian Coppola is set to return.

Head coach Steve Owens and pitching coach Brendan Monaghan have also added five pitchers in the 2024 recruiting class. Per Perfect Game, Rutgers has commitments from lefthander Hunter Hoxie along with four righthanders in Luke Fithian, Landon Mack, Nolan Peel and Jared Carlucci.

The Rutgers pitching staff makeover continues and it possible more hurlers are added this offseason.

Good to see Coach adding experienced arms to his class of recruits. Add Coppola with national team experience under his belt and a winter of prep with the new players and next summer should be a lot of fun!
