Rutgers baseball continues to rebuild the roster and announced the addition of Manhattan transfer Pete Durocher on Thursday. The outfielder is a two-time All-MAAC performer.
The Emerson, New Jersey native led the Jaspers this past season with a .335 batting average, 80 hits and an OPS of .915. Durocher also had 8 home runs, 16 doubles and 3 triples to finish with a .527 slugging percentage. The Second Team-All MAAC selection also added 50 RBI and scored 44 runs.
He is a career .329 hitter at the collegiate level including a .350 batting average in the 2022 season.
In high school, Durocher helped lead Emerson Junior-Senior to the State Championship and a pair of Section titles. He was named both team MVP and captain as a junior and a senior while earning First Team All-League honors and Second Team All-North Jersey honors.
Durocher said, “It has always been a dream of mine growing up as a Jersey kid to play for Rutgers and represent New Jersey.”
The program also announced the addition of Rowan transfer Scotty Young . He tweeted his commitment back in May. The JUCO left-handed outfielder from Rowan College of South Jersey hit .441 along with eight home runs, 68 RBI, 82 runs scored, 16 stolen bases. He finished with a 1.101 OPS this past season. Young helped Rowan to a No. 2 ranking in the NJCAA Division III poll while finishing 46-5.
Rutgers has now added seven transfers this offseason. The signings of Durocher and Young come one day after the program announced the addition of Miami transfer catcher JD Jones. RU has also added three pitchers including St. John’s transfer Sonny Fauci, Old Dominion’s Joey DeChiaro and Jack Eshleman of Hamilton College. Outfielder Pete Ciuffreda from Lafayette was the first transfer to be announced this offseason. Expect Owens and the staff to continue to target transfers in the portal this summer as the roster rebuild progresses.
