Episode No. 103 of The Scarlet Faithful podcast features my rapid reaction to 4-star playmaker Korey Duff Jr. committing to Rutgers football.

The 6’5” receiver is projected as a tight end at the college level. However he is ultimately used, the talented pass catcher has the potential to become a true weapon for Rutgers is the future.

In 10 games as a junior at St. Anthony’s in Melville, New York, Duff Jr. had 42 catches for 995 receiving yards and 12 receiving touchdowns. He was dominant in the pass game in averaging 23.7 yards per reception and 99.5 receiving yards per game. Duff Jr. improved after a strong sophomore campaign in which he had 35 catches for 682 receiving yards and 5 receiving touchdowns in 9 games. During that 2021 season, Duff Jr. averaged 19.5 yards per catch and 75.8 yards per game.

Duff Jr. is ranked the No. 2 recruit in New York, the No. 17 tight end nationally and No. 341 overall in the 2024 class per 247 Sports composite rankings. He holds almost two dozen offers with double digit power five offers. They include North Carolina, Miami, Texas A&M, Maryland, Pitt, Syracuse, West Virginia, Kansas, UCF and Arizona State among others.

This was a great win on the recruiting trail for Rutgers. On this episode, I discuss Duff’s high ceiling, the importance of adding a lot of high end offensive talent in the 2024 class, the national recruiting rankings and more.

Couldn’t agree more that Duff appears to be one of the best recruits Schiano has landed since his return to Rutgers. I’ll go further and say that this recruit has the potential to be one of the best receivers to play for Rutgers. By the way, the QB (Dante Torres) throwing to Duff committed to Harvard and should have a great career there. It appears Rutgers never offered him, perhaps because Sheppard was considered to have better potential as a true RPO QB and committed quickly, or Torres wasn’t warm about Rutgers, being considered more of pro style QB. But Torres looked like the real deal to me and I’m surprised he never was at least offered considering the other QBs offered.

What a great way to begin closing out this class. I was trying to think of tall high level receivers in recent memory and the first name that came to mind was Kenny Britt but even he was “only” 6’3″.

Now a 4 star on the OL and DL would be ideal.
