Episode No. 102 is a discussion on all of the offseason roster moves for Rutgers baseball in what has been a busy month.
Eleven reported players from last season’s roster have entered the transfer portal. The most notable, Evan Sleight, had a good chance to be selected in the upcoming MLB Draft. Instead, he just announced his commitment to Alabama. Three additional position players have left in shortstop Max Martin, catcher Jason Shockley and C/OF Danny Melnick.
In addition, Seven pitchers from last season’s roster are currently in the transfer portal. They include senior relievers Sam Bello and Garrett French, as well as senior John Modungo and freshman Grant Besser, who split time as starters and in the bullpen. In addition, senior Jayson Hoopes, sophomore Matt Rowe and freshman JT Kroner are also leaving.
Rutgers has now added eight transfers through the portal this offseason so far.
Just this week, RU added a multi-positional player and Rider transfer John Volpe. Last week, the program added a pair of outfielders, two time All-MAAC selection Pete Durocher from Manhattan and Scotty Young from the JUCO ranks. They also added catcher JD Jones, who is transferring in from Miami. The first transfer the program landed this offseason was outfielder Pete Ciuffreda from Lafayette. On the mound, the Scarlet Knights have added starters Jack Eshleman from Division III Hamilton College and St. John’s transfer Sonny Fauci. RU also added Old Dominion reliever Joey DeChiaro.
This episode includes a full discussion on the players who left, the transfers on the way, and returning players as well.

Thanks for the updates. Need to replace the clean-up hitter moving down South. Any interest in Md players or recruits now that Vaughn has moved on?
