Rutgers falls to Nebraska 82-72: Rapid Reaction Video & Recap
In just its third game at the RAC in a month, most Rutgers fans expected a warm reunion with the Rutgers men’s basketball team. Instead, the Scarlet Knights struggled mightily against 12th place Nebraska. It was a disheartening 82-72 result as RU lost at home for just the third time all season.
The Huskers shot the lights on Tuesday. They were 58% from the floor, 12 of 28 for 43% from three-point range and scored 40 points in the paint. They had four scorers in double digits including leading scorer Keisei Tominaga who finished with 22 points on 4 of 9 from three. New Jersey native CJ Wilcher had 17 points including 5 of 9 from behind the arc.
Rutgers shot 46% from the floor including 8 of 25 for 35% from three-point range. While they held a +3 turnover margin, they were still outscored 16-14 in points off of turnovers. On 11 offensive rebounds, RU scored just 10 points.
Aundre Hyatt was the biggest bright spot in the game with a career high 24 points. He made 8 of 18 shots including 5 of 11 from three-point range. He added 3 rebounds and an assist. Cliff Omoruyi had 13 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 blocked shots. Caleb McConnell had 12 points on 5 of 12 shooting, 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists. Derek Simpson shot well off the bench in making 5 of 7 shots for 10 points in 19 minutes.
Rutgers is now 16-10 overall and 8-7 in Big Ten play.
