Tremendous performances, elite defense, drama and almost two dozen lead changes result in the ultimate revenge. Rutgers and Ohio State went back and forth the entire way before the Scarlet Knights were able to pull out the 68-64 overtime victory. There were 22 lead changes in the game after the Buckeyes stormed out to a 15-4 lead early in the first half. RU’s trademark defense showed up in a big way and they made big plays on offense down the stretch.

You can read my full recap here.

Below are game highlights from the win, the clutch three-point shot by Mawot Mag, the postgame press conference for Rutgers, my rapid reaction video and the box score.

I love Aaron’s Aaron’s “Rapid Reaction” segments! There’s so much to say about this game but Aaron covered it nicely. As I watched the game unfold, I kept coming back to the same thought – in the Rutgers half court offense, I’m never more confident that something positive will happen than when I see the ball in Spencer’s hands. With rare exceptions, he makes the right decision. His efficiency moving without the ball, his footwork and overall preparation to catch and shoot, his ability to find the open man and deliver the appropriate pass on time and with accuracy – all of those things combine to account for the improvement we’re seeing in the half court offense, in my opinion. Last night he had 6 assists to go with his 21pts. He’s a complete player – 4 steals on defense and always anticipating what the opposition is wanting to do so he seems to anticipate & get into passing lanes game in & game out. I can’t say enough about the meaningful difference he’s making on this team. If this team can just take the next step in improving its half court offense on a consistent basis, it will be the needed complement to its elite level defense that will take to a new and higher level where college basketball will no longer be able to overlook Rutgers. Finally, I loved Pikell’s TF. Perhaps it was meant as a statement that Rutgers isn’t going to accept the usual anymore when it comes to officiating – on the road or at home. Given the commitment of 5*, Ace Bailey, post game, it’s apparent that recruits are seeing what we’re seeing – a program on the rise and a HC that they want to play for in one of the great college basketball venues!

Aaron, you were spot on when you told me that Pikiell had a real chance of making the ’24 class truly exceptional and to keep my eye out for it. It looks like it’s taking shape!
