Rutgers delivered a classic performance on Tuesday night. In front of their home fans, Steve Pikiell’s team dominated in a 65-45 victory over Penn State. The Scarlet Knights held the Nittany Lions to 33% shooting and just 4 of 26 from three-point range for 12%. It was a tremendous defensive effort that we’ve come to expect with this group. RU shot 46% from the floor and made 15 of 19 shot from the foul line (79%) while finishing with four scorers in double figures.
The Scarlet Knights held PSU to a season-low 45 points. It was the 13th opponent that Rutgers held to a season low in scoring. 12 of those occurrences have come at the RAC this season.

Really nice win over a dangerous 3 point shooing Penn State team. Just think back to before the season started. Most people expected a big drop off from last year as we lost our top scorers and team leaders in Harper and Baker. Instead, it is looking like this could be our best Big Ten season ever. What this Rutgers team is doing is simply amazing. Go RU!!
PSU took advantage of Omoruyi & McConnell both being on the bench in the 2nd half and crept back into the game. But once back in the game, order was established and Hyatt took care of the rest. And, what can you say about this team’s defense that hasn’t already been said? I’m still cautiously optimistic that before this season is over that the half court offense will become consistent and balanced in scoring distribution to better complement its elite defense. It’s been pointed out that when Rutgers scores 65pts, it’s undefeated this season. So, for me, that’s the goal and it’s achievable. Let’s see if the Iowa rematch can mark the point where Rutgers puts it all together, resulting in another big road win and another big step up the Big Ten ladder.

Tough gritty win for the team. Just insanely good defense and smart basketball all around. Hyatt was huge.
