After a very good debut season for Rutgers, Brian Soldano was named to the 2022-23 Intermat All-Freshman Team. Soldano earned second-team honors after finishing his rookie campaign with a 23-12 record at 184 pounds. His record included 12-4 in dual meets and a team high 51 dual points. He also led Rutgers with eight pins this past winter.
The freshman finished sixth at the Big Ten Championships and fourth at the Midlands Championships.
Soldano had the flair for the dramatic throughout his first season. He opened his collegiate career with back to back victories over ranked foes. They were No. 17 Anthony Montalvo (Arizona State) and No. 22 Will Feldkamp (Clarion). At the NCAA Championships, Soldano earned two victories, both in come from behind fashion. As the No. 18 seed, he registered pins while trailing both No. No. 15 Layne Malczewski (Michigan State) and No. 16 Reece Heller (Pittsburgh). He ultimately fell one win short of advancing to the blood round.
The High Point, New Jersey native was the top recruit in the state in the 2022 class after winning three state titles in his scholastic career. He displayed talent and potential in his first season at the collegiate level that should make Rutgers fans excited about his future.

Incredible sequence on the mat between Soldano & Heller at NCAA’s culminating in a Soldano fall. To do it Soldano grabs a club grip + tricep control from his back, hip heists & throws a headlock from the ground. This match had 16 near fall pts before it ended.
