On Tuesday, Rutgers defeated Seton Hall 5-1 at Bainton Field. RU improves to 17-15 overall this season while SHU drops to 15-15. The Scarlet Knights are now 8-0 in midweek games this season.

Starting pitcher Justin Sinibaldi has started five of them and earned his fourth victory overall in his performance against the Pirates. He’s allowed just four earned runs in 27.2 innings with 22 strikeouts and just eight walks. He went five innings on Tuesday and allowed an unearned run on seven hits. Sinibaldi struck out three and walked two.

The bullpen kept Seton Hall at bay with Sam Portnoy tossing 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed just two hits and struck out one. Ben Gorski struck out the final batter of the game to earn his team high fourth save of the season.

Chris Brito led the offense going 2 of 3 at the plate with four RBIs and a run scored. He hit a two run homer in the third inning while also driving in runs with sacrifice fly in the fifth and with a single in the seventh. In addition, Josh Kuroda-Grauer was 2 of 4 with a run scored while Trevor Cohen was 2 of 3 with two runs scored. Evan Sleight also knocked in a run with a single.

Kuroda-Grauer also had a big day defensively in recording nine assists at shortstop. It’s the most for the program since Kevin Welsh recorded the same amount at Nebraska in 2017.

The win followed Sunday’s victory over Big Ten foe Maryland. Rutgers returns Wednesday night against Marist to host the first night game in Bainton Field history. The lights were added this offseason and it’s a big step forward for the program. The first pitch is at 6:00 p.m. and will stream live on B1G+.

Now if only the team can build on this going into the Michigan series ending in a series win, it may be onto something positive as the weather warms.
