Rutgers football received a commitment from 3-star linebacker Sam Pilof on Saturday. The Middleton, Wisconsin native is currently on an unofficial visit to the program. It’s his third visit to RU during his recruitment and has been a long term target of the coaching staff. Landing the 6’2″, 210 pound linebacker from Big Ten country is a signficant recruiting win for the program.
He was offered by Rutgers in April 2022, which 247 Sports reports as his first offer. Pilof also reportedly held offers from Iowa State, Penn State and Wisconsin. In addition, he visited Notre Dame twice. However, he seemed Big Ten bound all along. The Rivals site, Badgers Blitz, called Pilof a “top priority” in the 2024 class for Wisconsin. It’s a big deal for Rutgers to take a top ten recruit from Wisconsin, one who had two crystal ball predictions to become a Badger.
Pilof is ranked by 247 Sports as the No. 4 recruit in Wisconsin and No. 59 linebacker nationally. The 247 Sports composite rankings that include multiple national recruiting services has Pilof as the No. 10 prospect in Wisconsin, the No. 93 linebacker and No. 971 overall recruit nationally.
This is a great recruiting win for Rutgers in the heart of Big Ten country. Pilof plays on the edge and has the ability to drop into pass coverage as well. He’s a sound tackler who has a big frame and will get even stronger. His ceiling is developing into a future starter and major contributor for the Scarlet Knights defense.
Rutgers now has four commitments in its 2024 recruiting class. Pilof joins 4-star athletic Gabriel Winowich from Detroit, Michigan, 3-star QB AJ Surace of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and 3-star offensive lineman Kenny Jones of Delran, NJ. Per 247 Sports composite rankings, the class is currently ranked No. 45 nationally and No. 10 in the Big Ten.
