Episode No. 74 focuses on Rutgers football’s latest pickup through the transfer portal and the need for more.
On Wednesday, wide receiver JaQuae Jackson committed to the program. He was an All-American for Division II California University of Pennsylvania last season. Jackson produced 77 catches for 1,178 receiving yards for 15.3 yards per reception. He also caught 13 touchdowns in 11 games last season. In 2021, he was also a productive receiver in 10 games. He registered 58 catches for 744 receiving yards for 12.8 yards per reception and 8 touchdowns. Jackson is a grad transfer and has one year of eligibility remaining.
I discuss his skill set, the importance of adding Jackson to an inexperienced wide receiver group and how he can make an impact next season. Even so, I think Rutgers still needs to add another receiver from the transfer portal. The position as a whole is lacking a proven pass catcher with FBS and power five experience. Although hopes for Jackson and FCS transfer Naseim Brantley should be high, as well as the potential of Chris Long and Rashad Rochelle, adding a proven wideout would be beneficial.
In addition, the episode includes discussion on other transfer portal needs including offensive line. And lastly, should Rutgers pursue another QB in the portal?
