Episode No. 99 covers five current thoughts that I have on the Rutgers men’s basketball program. There are plenty of things going on for Steve Pikiell’s program during what has been a unique and busy offseason so far.
On early Friday morning, Caleb McConnell signed an Exhibit-10 contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder. I discuss what the deal means and what’s next in his pro journey.
Rutgers guard Derek Simpson was my guest on Thursday’s episode of The Scarlet Faithful podcast. After stepping up in big moments at the end of last season and the backcourt without Cam Spencer and Paul Mulcahy, opportunity is knocking for Simpson. He spoke about his freshman season development, roster changes this offseason, expectations, Steve Pikiell’s message to the team and much more. I wanted to discuss the impact he is making in the program now and what to expect in the future.
Steve Pikiell this week spoke about Gavin Griffiths set to play a big role next season. I also think Jamichael Davis has a chance now to player a larger role than previously anticipated. How much of an impact can the freshman make this coming season?
Portal strategy and why there have been few updates on potential targets so far.
Lastly, the culture and program mantra remains the same. The identity remains the same. And for me, that’s the biggest reason to remain optimistic about next season.
