Rutgers wrestling continues to add high end talent to the program. On Thursday, head coach Scott Goodale landed a commitment from Nate Blanchette on Thursday. The nationally ranked wrestler in the class of 2024 just completed a perfect junior season at 47-0 and won a national title as well.

Blanchette won the 2023 Massachusetts state title at 182 pounds before winning the National High School Coaches Association Junior National Title at 170 pounds in March. He’s currently listed in the Flowrestling rankings as the No. 58 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class. He is also ranked No. 15 at 170 pounds.

It’s clear the two-time New England champion is a great program fit for Goodale. After winning the national title, Blanchette told the Eagle-Tribune about his preparation and also his immediate focus to continue the work right after the biggest achievement of his career so far.

“I took my dedication up a notch heading into this season. I wrestled way more than last year, started grinding more and focused up a little. I woke up at 5 a.m. every day, ran and went to practice. Hard work pays off. Train hard, win easy like my coach says. I wouldn’t be here without my coaches, Jamie Durkin and Matt Smith.” He added, “It’s time to get back to work. Get back to the workouts and the practice room.”

Goodale has added three key transfers this offseason that project as starters next season. They include Mitch Moore, Jacob Butler and Yaraslau Slavikouski. Now adding a highly decorated scholastic wrestler in Blanchette continues positive momentum for the program.

Blanchette is a stud. This will be another Top 10 recruiting class for Goodale and Rutgers.

I don’t know much about wrestling but I do love Goodale’s approach to coaching and his intensity. Obviously disappointed in last season, he just went right out there and addressed the areas of concern. No doubt he’s not finished doing a rebuild.
