Rutgers football got a big win on the recruiting trail on Wednesday as 3-star linebacker Samarian Robinson committed to the program. He originally committed to Central Florida (UCF) in January and took an official visit there earlier this month. However, RU offered Robinson in May and was able to get him on campus for an official visit this week. Ultimately, Robinson decided to flip and become a Scarlet Knight.

The 6’3”, 210 pounder from Tallahassee, Florida is a high 3-star prospect with a grade of .8797. Per 247 Sports composite rankings, Robinson is ranked No. 90 in Florida, the No. 58 linebacker in the country, and No. 614 overall prospect in the class of 2024. Even more impressive is Robinson ranked No. 64 in Florida by 247 Sports. While Rutgers has regularly landed recruits from the Sunshine state, it’s not often they rate as high as Robinson.

He holds offers from Arkansas, Louisville, Colorado, Arizona, and South Florida among others. He also had interest from Florida State and visited there.

As a junior in 2022, Robinson made 93 tackles including 38 solo along with two forced fumbles for Tallahassee Lincoln. He played next to Georgia linebacker signee Raylen Wilson last season.

Per Todderick Hunt of NJ Advance Media, “Robinson has the dimension schools seek in off-the-ball linebackers these days. He boasts an 81-inch wing span — NFL metrics — runs a 4.6-second 40-yard dash, has been clocked as fast as 21 miles per hour.”

Robinson is now the fifth commit from Florida in the 2024 class for head coach Greg Schiano. He joins safety Dah’Kari Gilley, defensive linemen Tycoolhill and Tyclean Luman, as well as offensive lineman Raynor Andrews.

He is the third linebacker in the class, joining Sam Pilof from Wisconsin and Montele Johnson from Michigan.

After suffering a flip this past weekend when 3-star lineman Judah Pruitt switched to Boston College, Rutgers did the same with Robinson. He is now the third highest rated prospect in RU’s 2024 class. With 15 commitments, the class is now ranked No. 27 nationally and No. 6 in the Big Ten per 247 Sports composite rankings.

Mr. Robinson has the type of LB size needed in the Big Ten. The type of player which can help elevate this defense from solid to downright nasty. Welcome to the Banks, Mr. Robinson!
