Episode No. 81 focuses on the impending deadline for Paul Mulcahy and Cliff Omoruyi in regard to returning to Rutgers or not. They have until midnight on May 31 to withdraw from the NBA draft early entrant pool. A full discussion on their options and what seems like the most likely scenarios is included.

Rapid Reaction to Rutgers’ 75-35 ...

Omoruyi has two workouts for NBA teams leading up to the deadline to make a decision. As I’ve discussed for a few weeks, signing a two-way deal and playing in the G League next season could prove to be an opportunity Cliff can’t pass up. If he’s given a guarantee that a team will offer him such a deal, I think it would be difficult for him to turn it down. While the minimum contract for the G League is $40,000, two-way deals are far more lucrative. Earning potential could reacg the mid to high six figures with a two-way deal.

With Paul, the hope should be that he decides to return. His impact on the program has been significant. A chance to play one more season at Rutgers is hopefully something he wants to do.

Steve Pikiell and the coaching staff have been on hold to a large degree in how to proceed in the transfer portal. Whatever Cliff and Paul decide, there will finally be some clarity on next season’s roster. The staff will have a better understanding of what they have back and what they need in terms of restocking the roster. Wednesday’s deadline will close one chapter of the offseason and open another one.

In addition, this episode discusses the news of Cam Spencer not visiting a Big Ten school. It also includes a reason why Dylan Harper would be a great program fit for Rutgers aside from his immense talent.

As the waiting grows in the next day plus, remember to believe in hope. No matter what happens, Steve Pikiell will find a way to make Rutgers basketball better in the long term.

Thanks for listening and watching once again. Talk to you tomorrow! And perhaps more than once based on how Mulcahy and Omoruyi’s decisions are announced.
